After watching my now best friend in the talent show in fifth grade, dance was my life. I was a competitive dancer and turned it into a professional career for over 15 years. I, then, was slightly responsible and got my degree in International Manufacturing and Product Development and worked at Pacific Sunwear for four years. I loved the people I worked with, however, I felt like I had more to give. And, let’s be honest, production is a headache.
I took a leap of faith and left the apparel industry and went back to my dance roots. Dancing makes me happy and always will. My life forever changed when my best friend suggested I look into pilates. I was never one for working out (dance was thought of as a hobby, not as a means of fitness) until Pilates. Every exercise made perfect sense to me. I wish I had Pilates training while I was dancing, and I think about that for my clients. Whatever their goals are, Pilates can absolutely help them. That’s where Pilates can also change the life of my clients.
Now, slightly obsessed with fitness, I love training. Strength training, boxing, cycling, yoga, it all makes sense to me because of my deep roots with Pilates. Pilates is the base to all of my training. No matter what workout I’m doing, Pilates is the foundation for my body to take it on.
I’ve been teaching Pilates for over 6 years. I have a wide variety of clients: from beginner to advanced, 13 to 76 yrs of age, healthy bodies to multiple injuries, self-proclaimed couch potatoes to professional athletes. With my dance background, I have the ability to look at a body and correct form, slight imbalances, and make the body in front of me understand the work and the corrections. It’s one thing for me to understand and perfect the work, but it’s another thing for someone who is not as passionate about Pilates to learn and appreciate the work as well. Then to watch them bring it into the other aspects of their lives – whether it’s other training, daily life activities, being in less pain, I’m able to make my clients excited about being healthy and living a healthy lifestyle from my training.
